Nicole M. Chapman obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Iowa and is currently a Senior Scientist in Dr. Hongbo Chi’s lab in the Department of Immunology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her research aims to understand how crosstalk between signaling pathways, nutrient or metabolite uptake, and/or intracellular metabolic networks – called bidirectional metabolic signaling – impacts the fate and function of conventional and regulatory T cells in discrete inflammatory or tissue microenvironments, and how such interplay alters adaptive immune responses in autoimmunity and cancer. These questions are addressed using integrative, in vivo screening and systems biology approaches, as well as data-driven network algorithms that can identify novel regulators of immunometabolism.
