David Moranta Mesquida is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He obtained his PhD in Biology in 2005 at the University of Balearic Islands (UIB), and completed his postdoctoral degree between 2006 and 2015 at the “Infection and Immunity Laboratory of the Caubet-Cimera Foundation” (finally transformed into the current Balearic Islands Health Research Institute, IdISBa). Between 2009 and 2015, he was also involved in the program “New Therapeutic Targets” of the “Network Research Centre for Respiratory Diseases (CIBERES)”. During this period, his research focused on innate immunity in the context of bacterial infection. Current research at the UIB is mainly focused on the effects of ageing on the brain and on elucidating molecular mechanisms that underlie neuroprotective effects of different anti-ageing strategies.
